During my visit to the United States in 2007, people from diverse social backgrounds consistently expressed the same reaction upon learning my nationality: "I'M SORRY.” An illuminated sign box features the sentence "I'M SORRY" surrounded by light bulbs in the colors of the American flag, flickering and glimmering.
